Impact Hub Tackles Austin’s Affordability Issues

On August 1st, Impact Hub officially launched our Affordability Accelerator program. Applications are open for social entrepreneurs, changemakers, nonprofit partners and community members working to address affordability issues in Austin. We’re looking at affordability through the lens of housing and transit with a focus on policy and advocacy, financial innovation, and efficient tools and resources.

Austin's Affordability Issues

“This is a room that bursts with creativity and entrepreneurial vision. What happens in the community is what solves our issues. Community-driven solutions are what will keep Austin the place we all know and love, government should fill the gaps and support innovation.” Mayor Steve Adler addressed community members at the the August 1 Launch Party.

Coming right off the momentum from Impact Hub’s successful Workplace Development Accelerator, the second-ever Affordability Accelerator will focus on curating real, holistic solutions to solve the city’s growing affordability crisis. During the three-month program, dynamic individuals from the tech, civic and real estate industries will regularly meet to discuss their ideas and ventures, in addition to working with mentors and leaders in their fields.

The Workforce Development Accelerator wrapped last month, and as a direct result of the cohort’s efforts, it’s been estimated that nearly five hundred workers are already in training for, or being placed in, middle-class jobs.

Impact Hub Austin is dedicated to solving our city’s biggest challenges, which include soaring housing and transit costs, widespread income inequality, and unemployment. Our accelerator programs provide a unique way to bring like-minded people together who want to address important issues, connect with subject matter experts and mentors, and make a meaningful impact on the community at large.
